years ago, on 8 March 1982, I came home from work as usual. At about 6.30
pm, Seow Yew’s sister called with the devastating news that he has passed
away. He collided with a stationary lorry while riding back to camp.
Since that evening, I could never bring myself to ride a motorbike again.
Seow Yew died at the age of 26. He has just completed a scholarship
in Japan and was in the midst of completing National
being good in his studies during primary and secondary/pre-University
school, Seow Yew was talented in many ways and had many hobbies.
He was a brilliant judoka who represented Raffles Institution many times.
He even brought honour, glory and pride to our nation by winning a bronze
medal for Singapore in the 11th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) held in
Manila in December 1981.
Yew was also a wonderful friend to many. He is fondly remembered by family
and friends as an interesting, jovial and helpful person.
