About This Site

My name is Roger Loh Chee Meng and I am one of Seow Yew's childhood friends. In August 2001, Kian Wei, a Rafflesian and also one of Seow Yew's close friends, called me to express his intention to organize a special remembrance evening on 8 March 2002 for our late classmate Seow Yew who departed so suddenly twenty years ago.
Inspired by his special effort, I created this web site in January 2002.
Yew was a special friend to me. I remember him as an interesting, jovial
and helpful friend and through this site, I wish to share some special
moments we spent together as well as some of his life's journey. However,
this site is not intended to be his biography. Rather, I intended it as a
remembrance web site for his friends and classmates as well as for them to
publish any contributions and comments. I merely felt that I am in
a better position than most people to take a lead role in this since we
were close friends.
we were primary school classmates at Selegie Integrated School in the
1960's, we discovered that we were also neighbours. In 1969, we were among
the fifteen boys from Selegie to be admitted to Raffles Institution where we
our secondary and pre-University education. In December 1974, we were
enlisted for National Service and posted to the same section of the same
Scholars' Platoon to carry out our Officer Cadet Training.
finally parted when Seow Yew was awarded the PSC Overseas/Mombusho
scholarship and left for Japan for his university studies in April 1975.
Still, we kept in touch through regular aerograms, letters and
photographs. He came back in 1980 and I could still remember the
excitement when I first heard his voice over the phone telling me that he
was home. Guess what? That evening, we gathered at his Rochore House
residence where he showed me many of the goodies he brought back from
Japan. These included some Japanese song sheets and even a Nakamichi hi-fi
did I know that we would soon miss him. I am glad that the process of
creating this site, though painful, gave me a chance to consolidate my
recollections of a long lost friend. And I hope that these web pages could
bring back some memories of Seow Yew to you. I would also appreciate it if
you could kindly sign the Guest Book on your way out.
